North Huron council slammed through the Hometown Security Act that gives new “Power Of Entry” to town staff. A clear violation of our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. 99% of you weren’t using your Rights away, so you likely won’t miss them now they are officially gone. Don’t worry, senior management was assured at the meeting that the law would NOT be use against them. Quote: “there’s not a person in this room that will ever have anything to do with this by-law.”
This law was created because town staff have people they want to go after, and couldn’t because it was against the law, so they passed the Hometown Security Act in an attempt to cover their asses. Remember the “legal review” of this law basically was “I know a guy who knows a guy that looked at it”. The reality is they didn’t want a legal opinion, or they got one that was contrary to their objectives. They didn’t want Public or Press scrutiny as it would have found massive resistance.
North Huron council has struck back at those standing up for the Canadian Charter of Rights Freedoms, and anyone that speaks out against the Hometown Security Act. Council claims those that oppose town staff’s new “power of entry” to your home must have something to hide, or you have or support meth labs.
Rumor is the Hometown Security Act was the real reason council had a secret meeting on 05Jan2016. The Public and Press were not allowed, and no official digital recording of the meeting exists.
As usual North Huron council has targeted Wingham Free Press for informing the Public of the existence of the Hometown Security Act (10-2016). In an puerile overreaction they have once again gone after one of WFP’s champion causes and now claim too many sidewalks are cleared, and there are only a handful of Citizens that disapprove of council or their actions…..which means they believe they are near a 100% approval rating!
