NORFOLK COUNTY OPP RESPONDS TO OVER 100 CALLS FOR SERVICE AFTER HIGH WINDS DOWNED TREES AND POWER LINES

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to over 112 calls for service dealing with high winds on Monday, November 24, 2014.

The OPP, Norfolk County Fire Services, Norfolk County Paramedics and Hydro One responded to several incidents throughout Norfolk County after high winds downed trees and power lines causing power outages to approximately 1000 residents.

Throughout the course of the day and evening hour’s police responded to several incidents involving trees blocking roadways and in a few incidents where trees landed on motor vehicles travelling along the roadway. Police also dealt with live hydro wires across various roadways after hydro poles snapped due to high winds however no injuries were reported during any of these incidents.

“We responded to over a hundred calls for service on Monday, November 24, 2014 and the OPP would like to thank all Norfolk County residents for their patience during the course of the day and evening hours as emergency crew responded across Norfolk County. I would also like to thank all the emergency personnel in attendance that worked respectively to ensure everyone’s safety,” comments Inspector Zvonko HORVAT, Norfolk County OPP Detachment Commander.
