(ONEIDA NATION OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION, ON) – Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Police with the assistance of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit is investigating a shooting incident, resulting in minor injuries Saturday morning.
On January 3, 2015 at approximately 8:40 a.m., police responded to a report of an injured male from an apparent gunshot wound, on Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation. The male was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
Police have learned that there was an apparent altercation outside a residence involving two adult males, when one of the males allegedly shot the other involved party, causing minor injury.
As a result of the investigation, police had two suspects in custody facing a number of charges.
A 51 year old male, John Miachael David KENNEDY, of no fixed address, is charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:
· assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a)
· aggravated assault, contrary to section 268
· possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88
· unauthorized possession of weapon, contrary to section 91(2)
· careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 86(1)
· possession of firearm or ammunition, contrary to section 117.01(1)
· assault, contrary to section 266
· careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) X2
He was held in custody and will be appearing in the London courts to answer to the charges.
A 46 year old female, Valerie VANDENDRIESSCHE, from London, Ontario, is charged under the criminal Code of Canada with:
careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) X3
possession of prohibited or restricted firearm/ammunition, contrary to section 95(b) X2
She is scheduled to appear in the London courts to answer to the charges.
The investigation was conducted with the assistance of members of the Oxford County OPP Crime Unit, the Elgin County OPP Crime Unit, the Perth County OPP Crime Unit, and the Munsee Delaware Police Service.
