On February 28, 2013, at approximately 5:00 pm, a Waterloo Regional Police Service vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle collision at Ottawa Street North and River Road East. The officer was responding to an emergency call in progress and had stopped at the intersection, with roof lights and siren activated to ensure the roadway was clear. There was no traffic in the intersection at the time and so the officer entered the intersection. As the officer was driving through the intersection a vehicle drove into it and struck the cruiser. The occupants of both vehicles were treated by EMS at the scene. The two occupants of the civilian vehicle were treated and released at the scene. The officer was taken to Grand River Hospital by ambulance for further evaluation. He was later released. The investigation is continuing at this time.
