(TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ON)- On August 20, 2013 at 3:00am, Nottawasaga OPP Officers were on routine patrols when they discovered a fire in a dumpster on Dominion Street at Victoria Street in the Town of New Tecumseth. The New Tecumseth Fire Department was contacted and attended to distinguish the fire.
OPP Officers then heard a disturbance in the trees south of the fire scene. Police searched the area and followed the sounds of someone running from the scene towards the river.
One male surrendered to Police as they approached him and the second male involved was located nearby and through the Police investigation. Police learned that the males also set fire to a newspaper box on Victoria Street prior to setting the dumpster on fire.
Charged with one count of Arson-Damage to Property is 20 year old Town of New Tecumseth resident, Steven STEWART. He will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on September 26, 2013 to answer to this charge.
The second male charged in this incident is 30 year old Town of New Tecumseth resident Bryon SWANSON, he is charged with two counts of Arson-Damage to Property and one count of Fail to Comply with Undertaking or Recognizance under the Criminal Code of Canada. He was sent for a bail hearing today.
