MULTI-PERSON FATAL COLLISION EAST OF ENGLISH RIVER

(UPSALA, ON) – At approximately 10:45pm on October 19, 2013 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was notified of a multi-vehicle collision that had occurred on Highway # 17 approximately 15 km east of English River. When officers arrived on scene it was determined that a pickup truck that had been travelling westbound on Highway # 17 had impacted with an eastbound commercial motor vehicle.

At this time it has been confirmed that the driver of the commercial motor vehicle is deceased. The identity of the driver has not been confirmed. The occupants of the pickup truck are also deceased but the number of occupants and their identities has not been confirmed.

Two other commercial motor vehicles (one travelling eastbound and one westbound) were also damaged in the collision. The occupants of these two vehicles were not injured.

The highway between Upsala and Ignace is currently closed. Travellers are advised to use Highway # 11 rather than Highway # 17.

OPP are on scene and the investigation is continuing. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
