Motorcyclist sustained serious injuries after a two-vehicle collision

On September 26, 2015 at 12:35 a.m., emergency services personnel went to the intersection of Elmira Road North and Tovell Drive for the report of a collision involving a motorcycle and a car.

Upon arrival, GWEMS personnel worked intently to render aid to the driver of the motorcycle, a 51-year-old Cambridge man, who was critically injured. He was subsequently transported to Guelph General Hospital in serious condition and later flown to Hamilton Health Sciences Centre. The driver of the car, a 31-year-old Guelph man, was treated at the scene.

Investigation alleges that the 51-year-old Cambridge man was travelling southbound on Elmira Road approaching Tovell Drive on a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle. At the same time the 31-year-old Guelph man was travelling northbound on Elmira Road in a 2013 Chevrolet Cruise and turned left onto Tovell Drive into the path of the motorcycle. Consequently, the left front of the Chevrolet struck the left side of the motorcycle.

The estimated value of the damage is in excess of $30,000.

Elmira Road was closed for nearly four hours as investigators worked to reconstruct the collision.

R.I.D.E.

On September 26/27, 2015 between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a R.I.D.E. program. 525 vehicles were checked by officers with 18 roadside screening tests being administered. Police issued three 3 day suspensions, one 24 hour suspension and one Provincial Offence Notice. One driver registered a fail on the Approved Screening Device and was arrested.

Qasim Mao, a 32-year-old Guelph male, has been charged with drive over 80mg. He will appear in court on October 9, 2015.

Guelph Police would like to remind drivers that between now and the holiday season they will continue to conduct random spot checks for persons driving under the influence of alcohol. Registering breath samples over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood will result in an immediate 90 day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension. Convictions for Impaired Driving and Driving with Over 80 mgs will both result in a minimum of 12 month driving prohibition.

Fence damaged

Sometime during the evening of September 25, 2015, an arrow was fired from a bow in the area of 176 Janefield Avenue puncturing a wooden fence. This fence is in close proximity to a regularly used walking path.

Assault – arrest

On September 26, 2015 at 1:05 a.m., the Guelph Police were called to a business on Wells Street to investigate the report of an assault. Individuals attended to Wells Street to pick up their vehicle that had been towed from the Project Safe Semester no parking zone downtown. A male became upset that the vehicle had been towed and assaulted and threatened the employee who was trying to return their car to them.

Humberto Inchima, 51 years of Guelph has been charged with assault and utter threats. He will appear in court on October 27, 2015.

Break and enter

On September 26, 2015 at 11:53 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Clairfields Drive West residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the garage sometime overnight by prying the side door. A theft of two bicycles is reported.

Disturbance downtown – arrests

On September 27, 2015 at 3:10 a.m., Guelph Police were flagged down on Macdonell Street and directed to several males fighting. As police intervened, two males continued to fight. They were both arrested.

Mathew Harkies, 30 years of Guelph and Adam Moss, 25 years of Cambridge have both been charged with cause disturbance by fighting. They will both appear in court on October 30, 2015.

Theft from cars – arrests

On September 26, 2015 at 2:56 a.m., the Guelph Police went to the area of Applewood Crescent for two males reportedly going through cars. The males were located and arrested. A search subsequent to their arrest discovered stolen property, break and enter instruments and one male was carrying a can of Mace.

Jacob Malott, 23 years of Guelph has been charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of break in instruments, breach undertaking, carry concealed weapon, and weapons dangerous. He will appear in court on September 28, 2015.

Alexander Dawe, 25 years of Guelph has been charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, and possession of break in instruments. He will appear in court on September 29, 2015.

Drive over 80 mg – arrest

On September 27, 2015 at 12:46 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Clairfields Drive West. Police spoke with the male driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested.

Jeffrey Marchildon, 42 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on October 9, 2015.

Impaired driver arrested

On September 27, 2015 at 2:18 a.m., the Guelph Police were in the area of Woodlawn Road doing a R.I.D.E. check when a possible impaired driver on Woodlawn Road was reported. This vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. lanes within minutes of the report. The male driver was spoken too and arrested.

Jack Mcintyre, 26 years of Shelburne has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He will appear in court on October 9, 2015.
