(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Thunder Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently on scene at a serious motor vehicle collision which occurred on Hwy 11/17 in Shuniah near the McTavish dump approximately one kilometre east of Silver Lake Road.
A single commercial tractor trailer unit travelling eastbound left the roadway and came to a stop in the south ditch. Hydro lines were damaged as a result of the collision, and Bell and Thunder Bay Hydro are both on scene.
The 56-year-old male driver from Beaumont Alberta was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin has not yet been notified. A postmortem examination will take place in Thunder Bay but the date has not yet been determined.
The roadway is open but OPP request caution when travelling through the area.
