More Racers Charged

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged two motorists with racing a motor vehicle in the last few days in the Collingwood area.

The first incident took place on February 20 2016 at approximately 8:40am at 26 Highway near Beachwood Road when an officer conducting radar patrols did a vehicle stop on a car found to be travelling at 105 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. This stop resulted in the 28 year-old driver from Mississauga being charged with race a motor vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act.

The second such incident took place on February 22 2016 at approximately 2:20pm at the same location where a speeding motor vehicle was stopped as a result of being found to be travelling at 106 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. This stop resulted in the 34 year-old driver from Collingwood being charged with race a motor vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act.

In both cases, the vehicles were impounded for 7 days, the drivers licences suspended for 7 days and both drivers are to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on May 20 2016.
