(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been using Focused Patrols throughout the month of May to help reduce the number of impaired drivers on the roads.
A recent analysis of impaired driving occurrences over the past five years in the City of Quinte West indicated that May was the highest month of the year for impaired driving occurrences. With the statistical data gathered from this analysis, the Quinte West OPP have focused their resources to the areas and times identified as being higher risk. The focused efforts of the Quinte West OPP appear to be working. Two drivers were arrested and charged overnight in separate impaired driving incidents. A third driver was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration above zero.
On Wednesday May 11th, 2016, at approximately 11:00pm officers stopped a vehicle on Bay Street in Trenton. Following a brief investigation with the male driver, Police conducted a road side screening test of the driver’s breath. The driver was subsequently arrested at the scene for driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood.
David Gill, 50, of Trenton was charged with:
Driving a motor vehicle while ability impaired by alcohol.
Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood.
On Thursday May 12th, 2016, shortly after midnight, officers stopped a vehicle on King Street. The Police investigation led to the arrest of the female driver at the scene for impaired driving.
Patricia Wilson, 66, of Ottawa has been charged with the following:
Driving a motor vehicle while ability impaired by alcohol.
Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood.
Both of the accused persons were released from custody on a Promise to Appear with a court date on May 26th, 2016, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
On Thursday May 12th, 2016, at 1:00am officers stopped a vehicle on Division Street in Trenton. A road side screening device was administered by Police. The novice driver subsequently had his driver’s licence suspended for 24 hours and was charged with driving with a blood alcohol level above zero. In Ontario, G1 and G2 novice drivers must have a blood alcohol level of ZERO.
