(QUINTE WEST, ON) β The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been using Focused Patrols throughout the month of May to help reduce the number of impaired drivers on their roadways.
The results of a five year study on Impaired Driving in Quinte West showed that the month of May is the most prevalent time of year for incidents of impaired driving. As a result of these findings, the Quinte West OPP focused their resources to the areas and times identified as being higher risk. The efforts of officers paid off as two more drivers were taken off the roads and charged over the weekend in separate impaired driving incidents.
On Saturday May 28th, 2016, at approximately 8:15pm officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Frankford-Stirling Road. A blue Chrysler Sebring lost control while travelling south bound on Frankford-Stirling Road. The vehicle spun off the roadway and struck a tree on the front lawn of a private residence. The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested at the scene for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and transported to the Quinte West OPP detachment.
Steven Lafferty, 41, of Quinte West was charged with:
Driving a motor vehicle while ability impaired by alcohol.
Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood.
He was released on a Promise to Appear with a first appearance date of June 9th, 2016, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
On Saturday May 28th, 2016, at approximately 11:15pm, officers stopped a vehicle travelling on Division Street in Trenton. The Police investigation led to the suspicion that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver provided a sample of his breath into an approved screening device and was arrested a short time later for having more than 80mgs of alcohol in his blood.
Ronald Horner-Vanderlinde, 19, of Trenton has been charged with Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood. He was also released on a Promise to Appear with a court date on June 9th, 2016, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
The Quinte West OPP Focused Patrols on impaired driving will wrap up on May 31st. The Focused Patrols have been successful on taking several impaired drivers off of the road this month and making the community a safer place.
