More Impaired Drivers Busted

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On February 2, 2017 at approximately 6:19 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), as well as Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and Superior North Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 102.

Upon attending the scene, officers observed a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) resting on its passenger side in the south ditch. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue had to extricate the driver from the vehicle.

The driver was transported to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

Further investigation revealed the driver had been consuming alcohol and further testing was conducted.

Dexter THOMS, 53 years of age, from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with:

-Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

He is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on March 10, 2017 to answer to the charge.

On February 4, 2017 at approximately 7:49 pm, officers responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 61 and Arthur Street.

Upon officers’ arrival, it was revealed that the driver of a Ford Focus was stopped for a red traffic light when it was struck from behind by an SUV. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage. There were no injuries reported.

The officer spoke to the driver of the SUV and determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was transported to the Thunder Bay OPP detachment for further tests.

Teresa COASTER, 42 years of age, from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with:

-Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code,

-Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act,

– Novice Driver Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Above Zero contrary to section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act,

-Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act.

She is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on March 28, 2017 to answer to the criminal charge.
