More Impaired Drivers Busted

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a two people with Impaired Driving related offences over the Thanksgiving weekend.

On Sunday, October 9, 2016, shortly after midnight, police received a report of a possible impaired driver in Keewatin. Police attended and later located the suspect vehicle on First Avenue South in the City of Kenora. Police stopped the vehicle and determined the male driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported for further tests.

As a result of this investigation, 22 year old Tyler COPENACE of Kenora has been charged with Impaired Driving contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code and Driving with More than 80 mg of Alcohol in Blood s. 253(1)(b) CC. He is to appear in Kenora court on October 13 to answer to the charge.

IMPAIRED COLLISON

(KENORA, ON) In an unrelated incident, another Kenora man is facing numerous driving related charges. On Monday, October 10, 2016 around 9:45 pm police received a report of a possible impaired driver involved in a collision on Valley Drive in the City of Kenora.

Police located the vehicle within a few minutes and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver continued driving in a residential area and failed to stop for police. In the interest of public safety, police stopped the vehicle using a tire deflation device on Rabbit Lake Road at 10:00 pm.

Police arrested the male driver and determined he had been consuming alcohol.

As a result of this investigation, 45 year old Glen WHITFORD of Kenora has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code:

Impaired Driving s.253(1)

Flight while Pursued by Police Officer s. 249.1(1)

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle s.249(1)(a)

Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample s. 254(5)

Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent s. 335(1)

Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident s. 252

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on October 14, 2016.
