(MATHESON, ON) – On November 2, 2016 at 2:08 p.m., the Matheson Ontario Provincial Police(OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11, approximately 20 kilometres south of Matheson. The investigation revealed the driver, Tjeripo Tjituri, 44, of Ottawa, had consumed alcohol over the legal limit. He was charged with Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol) contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. He was released on a Promise to Appear and was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins on November 3, 2016.
Furthermore, on November 3, 2016 at 8:52 p.m., the OPP conducted a sobriety check on Highway 11, north of Matheson after police observed the vehicle swerving. The driver, Connie Cox, 48, of Matheson was subsequently charged with Driving while Ability Impaired – motor vehicle (drug) contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. She was later released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins on December 6, 2016.
The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when driving. Call a friend or call a taxi. Anyone who suspects a driver of driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
