(PRINCE EDWARD, ON) – Officers from the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 52 calls for service this weekend. Those calls occurred between Friday March 17th, 2017 at 4:00 pm until Monday March 20th, at 8am. Among the investigations there are the following newsworthy items:
UTV DRIVER WITHOUT HELMET STOPPED, CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED
On the 17th of March 2017 at approximately 11:45 PM, OPP observed an orange UTV off road vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 62 through the intersection at County Road #3 in the Hamlet of Rossmore. Officers noticed that the driver of the UTV did not appear to be wearing a helmet. Officers conducted an investigation and determined that the driver of the UTV had also consumed alcohol prior to driving. The driver of the UTV then registered a fail on an Approved Screening Device (ASD). 18 year old Brayden KING of Belleville Ontario has been charged with Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by Alcohol and Driving with More Than 80 Milligrams of Alcohol in 100 Milliliters of Blood. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, Picton Ontario on April 26th, 2017.
IMPAIRED DRIVER ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL
On March 18th 2017 at approximately 12:27AM, Prince Edward OPP officers received a call of a possible impaired driver on Bethel Road between County Road 4 and Trumble Lane, in the Ward of Sophiasburgh. The caller indicated that there was a white Volkswagen parked for over one half hour with the engine running and lights on there. The driver appeared to be passed out behind the wheel. Officers conducted an investigation and determined that the driver had been drinking. Evidence of alcohol consumption was also located inside the vehicle. 28 year old Christopher GARDNER of Foxboro Ontario has been charged with Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired by Alcohol and Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 Milliliters of Blood. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, Picton Ontario on May 3rd, 2017.
