CAUTION ABOUT DANGEROUS WATER CONDITIONS

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – The Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind the public to use caution as water levels and water flows of lakes and rivers in the area are rapidly changing.

With heavy rainfalls expected in the coming days and due to changing weather conditions and continued thawing of waterways, levels will continue to rise, creating floods and fast moving water.

The Hawkesbury OPP Detachment is advising residents to be aware of the dangers present at the edges of rivers and open water as the ground is unstable and slippery.

Rivers are moving fast with higher than normal levels, on and beneath the water surface. There is also debris floating on and below the surface of the water.

The OPP strongly urge parents to watch their children and to take the time to properly educate them of the dangers of being around water.
