MOOSE RELOCATED

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had received several reports of a young moose roaming the neighbourhood in the north end of the city.

Calls were received from residents of the City of Orillia starting on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. The young moose was spotted in the area of Fittons Road, Peter Street and Jamieson Street.

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) from Midhurst District, has attended to assist.

Around noon today, the City of Orillia requested the OPP assist with traffic control and public safety at Peter Street and Fittons Road.

A Technician from the MNR was able to tranquilize the moose and safely re-locate it to a natural area in Severn Township. The MNR follow up on the progress of the moose and they advise that it was standing up and moving around shortly after being released.

This is not the first time moose have visited the city, there is usually a moose sighting once a year.
