Mobility Scooter Vs Pickup Truck – One Sent To Hospital, One Charged

Just before 2:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon The Owen Sound Police, Fire and Ambulance responded to an accident at the corner of 10th Street and 3rd Avenue East, Owen Sound. A F150 Ford pickup which had been south bound on 3rd Avenue East approaching 10th Street came to a stop then proceeded to make a right turn onto 10th Street. Unfortunately, as the driver moved forward in the truck he failed to see a pedestrian on an electric mobility scooter crossing with the walk signal east bound in front of him. The truck collided with the scooter knocking it and its female rider over wedging the scooter under the front bumper.

The scooter driver was transported to hospital by ambulance with non life threaten injuries. The pickup driver was not injured. The scooter received considerable damage. The driver of the pickup was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Partial closure of the west bound lanes of 10th Street East was closed off for approximately 20 minutes while emergency crews tended to the injured party and removed the damaged vehicles.
