(North Kawartha Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to assist in locating missing hikers today just before 1:00am.
Two female hikers attended Petroglyphs Provincial Park yesterday and hiked to High Falls. Family members became concerned and attended the park in an attempt to locate their overdue loved ones. The initial search effort was hampered by darkness and police were contacted for assistance.
After searching most of the night, members of the OPP Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) located the hikers, in the Petroglyphs trail system, just before 6:00am this morning. The two Peterborough area women (age 52 and 19) were cold but were otherwise uninjured.
