Missing Child Located 600 Metres From Home After Massive Search Effort

(GEORGIAN BAY TWP, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a report of a missing three year-old boy at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016. Family members reported that the boy had wandered away from their cottage, which is accessible by water only, in Georgian Bay Township.

Bracebridge detachment members attended and quickly called for support from neighbouring detachments and specialty support from the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine Unit, OPP Marine Unit and Aviation Services from the OPP and Canadian Armed Forces Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC).

After an extensive land and water search, the child was located in good health approximately 600 metres from the cottage by police at 5:30 a.m.

All available resources were utilized including approximately 20 police officers and many concerned neighbours assisting with the search throughout the night. Together, these collaborative efforts aided in making the outcome of this search one that concluded with a positive outcome.
