(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – On February 3, 2014 at approximately 9:45 a.m. Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Ilderton Fire Department responded to a report of an apparent collision involving a snowmobile at the back of a property on Wonderland Road south of Ten Mile Road in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre. When responders arrived it was discovered a male party was deceased at the scene.
The OPP Technical Traffic Investigation Team is currently on scene to help determine the sequence of events that lead to the death of the male, 50 year old Mark William HAWKINS of London, ON.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for tomorrow to determine the cause of death.
This is the ninth fatality in OPP jurisdiction involving a snowmobile and Middlesex County OPP wants to stress to riders the importance of sticking to the designated snowmobile trail systems when riding. Trails are clearly marked and regularly monitored and by using the trails, and riding responsibly it will help ensure a safe journey this winter season.
