MCGRATH Arrested After Hwy 21 Incident – Officer Repeatedly Assaulted

(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) – On November 4, 2017 at approximately 9:58 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a male jumping into traffic attempting to damage vehicles travelling on Highway 21 at French Bay Road in Saugeen First Nation.

When police arrived they observed the suspect smash the windows out of a Saugeen First Nation security vehicle and exit the vehicle. The suspect was arrested for mischief. While being escorted to the OPP cruiser, he assaulted an officer and then kicked the rear passenger door of the cruiser causing damage to it.

The suspect was transported to the Wiarton OPP Detachment where he committed an assault on the same officer. The male officer attended hospital where he was treated and released.

25-year old Kenneth Joshua MCGRATH of Saugeen First Nation was charged with three counts of Mischief Under $5000, Assault Peace Officer, and Assault Peace Officer – Cause Bodily Harm. Alcohol was a factor.

He was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody pending a video remand scheduled for November 6, 2017.
