(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On November 7, 2014, the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling Highway 69 in Carling Township. At approximately 9:19 p.m. a southbound white Mazda was observed travelling at a high rate of speed and as a result was stopped for “Stunt Drivingâ€Â. Further investigation revealed multiple open bottles of alcohol in the vehicle.
The driver, Mark WEST, 20 years of age from Barrie was arrested and has been charged with:
1. Race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA). His Ontario Drivers Licence has been suspended for seven (7) days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven (7) days.
2. Drive a motor vehicle with open container of liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act (LLA).
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on December 2, 2014.
Passenger, Tyler JEFFREY, 19 years of age from Barrie has been charged with: Having liquor in open container in other than licenced premises, residence or private place contrary to the LLA.
Passenger, Justin POITRAS, 19 years of age from Barrie has been charged with: Having liquor in open container in other than licenced premises, residence or private place contrary to the LLA.
Every person convicted of Race a motor vehicle is liable to a fine of not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both, and in addition his or her driver’s licence being suspended.
