MALE IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING STOLEN VEHICLE-UPDATE 2013-10-16
(KENORA, ON) – Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a 30 year old Kenora man with multiple charges following an incident on Wednesday, October 16 2013.
Police were advised shortly after 5:00 am that a 2003 GMC Sierra pick-up truck had been stolen from a driveway on Second St North in Kenora. The vehicle was running in the driveway when the suspect jumped in and drove away. Police observed the vehicle and tried to stop it. When the vehicle failed to stop for police, they initiated a suspect apprehension pursuit for brief time until the driver pulled over and ran from the vehicle in the Minto area of Kenora.
An OPP Canine Unit (K9) and members of the Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) attended and commenced a search for the subject. He was located at 8:00 am by the K9 unit and ERT members.
As a result of this investigation, Mark FONTAINE, 30 years old of Kenora has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:
1) Driving while Disqualified
2) Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
3) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
4) Theft Over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle
5) Possession of a Weapon
6) Trespassing at Night
He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on October 16, 2013.
