(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – On May 25, 2016, at approximately 11:18 a.m., the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were alerted to a possible impaired driver.
A white GMC pickup truck was stopped, facing northbound on Adelaide Street North, at Medway Road. A male was seated in the driver’s seat of the motor vehicle, and appeared to be asleep behind the steering wheel.
Concerned citizens assisted in placing the vehicle in park, and alerting emergency services.
Officers determined that the driver had been drinking alcohol. He was arrested, and transported to a Middlesex County OPP detachment for breath tests, but the male refused to provide a sample.
As a result of the police investigation, 54-year-old Manuel FERNANDES, from London, Ontario, has been charged with driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol), and fail or refuse to provide sample 254(2), contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA), and is scheduled to answer the charges in a London court on June 21, 2016.
