Man Escapes Injury In Train Versus SUV Collision

(PUSLINCH TWP, ON) On Monday April 1, 2013 at approximately 4:40 pm Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) that collided with a train on Maltby just east of Watson Road, in Puslinch Twp.

Investigation revealed that the 1997 Toyota Forerunner was travelling westbound on Maltby Road and was slowing down for the train tracks. The tracks are not controlled by railway barriers/gates or flashing lights. The male driver heard the train whistle but did not see the train until it was too late. The driver attempted to stop his vehicle, however, slid on the loose gravel and came to rest on the train tracks. The driver tried to back-up but could not do so fast enough and the train collided with the frontend of the SUV.

The male driver was not injured. Charges will not be laid.

The train was not damaged and the SUV sustained moderate damage to the frontend.

The Canadian Pacific Railway was notified.
