The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following an incident in Chatham yesterday afternoon.
Shortly after 1:00 p.m. officers responded to a suspicious man at a store on Park Avenue in Chatham. An employee observed the man to be carrying knives in each of his winter gloves. Officers located the man and he was arrested. Upon being searched, the man was found to be in possession of two fileting knives, a hatchet and hammer.
Richard Delaet, 59 years, of Park Avenue West in Chatham was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was released with conditions pending a future court date. As part of his release conditions, he further turned over to the investigating officers, a loaded shotgun that was improperly stored at his residence. The man now faces an additional charge of unsafe storage.
