The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a trespassing incident in Chatham last night.
Around 8:30 p.m. police responded to a disturbance on Park Avenue West as a man refused to leave a family member’s residence upon being asked to do so. The man locked himself in the bathroom and refused to leave. The door was forced open by a family member and as police attempted to apprehend the man, he began swinging his arms and pulling away, preventing the officer from effecting the arrest. The man was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. The officer sustained an injury to his hand as a result of being kicked. The officer attended the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical treatment. He was treated and released.
The 26-year-old Chatham man has been charged with trespassing, resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
