Man Charged with Driving Offences

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in the Tilbury area early this morning.

Around 12:30 a.m. police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Queen Street North near Mint Line. At this time, an officer observed a silver car in the ditch with no one in or around the vehicle. The officer subsequently attended the registered owner’s residence to check on her well-being, however no one was home. The officer left the residence, when moments later, he observed a black truck travelling down the roadway towards the residence. The officer attempted to stop the truck however the driver went around the cruiser and continued on. The officer recognized the male driver and female passenger. The driver pulled into the residence right into the garage and closed the door.

Through investigation, the officer learned that the male driver was prohibited from driving and also bound by conditions not to consume alcohol. Upon speaking to him, the officer believed that he had been operating the truck while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested. The man refused to provide a sample of his breath.

The 42-year-old Camden Township man has been charged with driving while disqualified, flight while pursued by peace officer, refuse to provide breath sample and failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
