On August 5, 2013 shortly after midnight, police responded to a break and enter on Merritt Avenue. At this time, the homeowner reported that she was awoken by a noise. Upon checking the residence, she found her kitchen sliding door open and lights on. A suspicious man was then observed in her backyard. Several items were rummaged through, however the only item stolen was a green lighter.
Officers were given a description of the suspect and through investigation, the man responsible for the break and enter was identified.
Yesterday morning, a 23-year-old Chatham man was charged with break and enter and transported to court for a bail hearing.
