(AURORA, ON) – On Sunday, July 31, 2016, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division (HSD) – Aurora Detachment stopped a vehicle on Highway 400 southbound near King Road for travelling 190 km/hr in a posted 100 km/hr zone.
Officers spoke with the 41 year old man and also observed two young children in the vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and returned to the Aurora detachment for breath tests. As a result of the breath tests the driver registered a warn range suspension. The driver was charged with stunt driving and careless driving and as a result, his driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
The OPP want to remind all drivers that high risk driving is inappropriate and officers will be vigilant in removing those drivers from the highways who put other road users at risk.
If motorists observe what they believe to be impaired or dangerous drivers on the highways, please call 911 and report them. OPP officers will treat these calls as priorities and will endeavor to take these drivers off the road before they are involved in a collision which could have tragic outcomes.
