Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man wanted on an outstanding warrant for shoplifting.

On April 13th and 14th the man attended Walmart on St. Clair Street in Chatham and stole various meats without making any attempt to pay for the items on either day. Approximately $600 worth of meat was stolen between both days.
On April 16th the man attended Walmart again and stole clothing and more meat valued at $150.

Through investigation, police identified the man responsible for the theft.

Yesterday morning, an officer saw the man driving on King Street West in Chatham. The officer initiated a traffic stop and arrested him on the outstanding warrant. The officer further learned that he was disqualified from driving.
The 39-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with four counts of theft under $5000, four counts of possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and driving while disqualified. His vehicle was impounded for 45 days as per the Vehicle Impoundment Program. He was transported to the courthouse for a bail hearing.
