Man Arrested For Planting 14 Marijuana Plants In A Corn Field

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment has charged a 48-year-old male after police investigated an incident at a Second Line, Hagersville, Haldimand County, Ontario address.

On Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at approximately 1:20 p.m., officers were on All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV), conducting patrols when they observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the middle of a roadway.

Through the course of investigation, it was determined that the owner of the vehicle had entered a farmer’s corn field and planted approximately 14 suspected Marihuana plants after clearing a section of the corn. Police took the male into custody without incident and subsequently removed the plants.

Charged with production of Marihuana is 48-year-old Robin Craig UREKAR of Haldimand County, Ontario.

He is to appear in Provincial Court, Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charge.

“Marihuana grows pose a real threat to both public and police safety and the OPP remains strongly committed to work within all of our communities across the province to stem the tide of illicit drugs,” comments Constable Ed Sanchuk, Haldimand County OPP.
