Man Arrested For Break And Enter On Christmas Day

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Members of Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an alarm call at the Rexall Pharmacy on Muskoka Road 118 in Bracebridge on Christmas Day, Friday December 25th, 2015 shortly after 10:00 a.m. Upon arrival it was established that the front doors of the business had been smashed and the business entered.

Members of the public that witnessed the event provided police with a description of the suspect and vehicle and both were located a short distance away on Glendale Road. A responding officer was injured arresting the suspect, who was able to flee the scene in his vehicle. A suspect apprehension pursuit was initiated and a short time later terminated due to public safety concerns.

Huntsville OPP assisted with locating the suspect vehicle, which was located a very short time later on Deer Lake Road in Port Sydney, having left the roadway, colliding with a tree. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to South Muskoka Memorial Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

59 year-old Dennis WILSON of Port Sydney has been charged with the following offenses:

Break and Enter CC 348(1)(b)

Assault with a Weapon CC 267(a)

Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest CC 270(1)(b)

Escape Lawful Custody CC 145(1)(a)

Flight while being Pursued by Police CC 249.1(1)

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle CC 249(1)(a)

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime CC 354(1)(a)

He has been held for a Bail Hearing on December 26th, 2015.

The injured officer was taken to South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.
