Males Take Turns Driving, Both Charged

(ASPHODEL-NORWOOD TOWNSHIP, ON) – Yesterday members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint about an aggressive driver westbound on Highway 7.

Witnesses allege the driver of a blue Chevrolet Malibu was speeding, passing unsafely and driving erratically. Shortly after 12:00pm, Police stopped the suspect vehicle on Highway 7 near the Eighth Line, west of the Village of Norwood.

Donald ST-JOHN (age 47) of Ottawa, Ontario was charged with:

Driving under suspension

Careless driving

Owner – operate no insurance

Fail to produce permit for vehicle

The vehicle was removed from the roadway by a local tow company.

Shortly after 1:30pm, OPP members from Highway Safety Division clocked the same Malibu westbound on Highway 7 near Indian River Line Otonabee-South Monaghan Township. The vehicle was travelling at 132km/h and passing other vehicles in the designated left hand turn lanes. The passenger from the first traffic stop was now the driver.

Timothy O’BRIEN (age 52) of Couquitlan, British Columbia was charged with:

Stunt driving in relation to excessive speed

Stunt driving in relation to passing in designated turning lanes

Drive no licence

Donald ST-JOHN (now the passenger) was charged in the second traffic stop with:

Owner – permit vehicle to be driven with no insurance

All accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough, Ontario on March 17, 2017. The 2006 Chevrolet Malibu was impounded.
