Barrie Police received numerous calls regarding a car that was speeding and driving in a dangerous manner in the area of Caplan Avenue prior to 8am this morning. It was reported that a black BMW had struck something in a parking lot on Barrie View Drive and that the bumper was hanging off of it. Police were advised that the vehicle with a young male driver struck a curb on Caplan Avenue and appeared to have damage to the drivers side as well.
Police entered the McDonald’s restaurant on Barrie View Drive as they had located the vehicle in question. Police had minimal physical descriptors for the male driver. Investigating officers spoke with 2 young males who misdirected them to the washroom under the impression that the possible driver was using the facilities. As soon as the officers went to check the washroom, the real driver exited quickly on foot leaving his damaged vehicle in the parking lot. Police had the damaged vehicle that was involved in the fail to remain accident towed from the parking lot. The 21 year old male driver was then located by police on foot a short distance away. He was arrested for Obstruct Police and Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle.
He was taken into custody and held pending his bail hearing on October 13th. He was further charged with Failing to comply with the conditions of his Recognizance. Thankfully, no one was injured in this incident.
