(CALEDON, ON) – On August 11th 2014, a Community Response Officer (CRU) was conducting traffic enforcement on Regional Road 50 in the Village of Bolton. The officer observed a 1997 Silver Volvo backing out of a parking lot forcing the officer to take evasive action to prevent a collision. The officer observed as the driver of the Volvo proceeded southbound on Regional Road 50 and initiated a traffic stop. The officer learned that the driver was suspended from driving for unpaid fines. After the officer served the driver with his documents, the driver stepped out of his vehicle and became irate, refusing to allow the tow truck operator to tow the vehicle. The driver returned to his vehicle and attempted to leave the scene, refusing to comply with the officer’s demands. The officer and the tow operator strategically placed their vehicles in order to prevent the driver from fleeing in his motor vehicle. The driver eventually complied with the officer’s demands and he was arrested. A search of the accused resulted in the location of a quantity of drugs, believed to be marijuana.
In conclusion, Phillip M. CIUFO, 35, from Richmond Hill was arrested and charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Obstruct Peace Officer and Possession of a Schedule II substance. He is further charged with Driving While under Suspension.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on September 18th, 2014.
