MALE ARRESTED AFTER EVADING OPP

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On January 7, 2014, just before 11:00 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was notified of a Volkswagen vehicle which failed to stop after being involved in a motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound near Victoria Road.

Chatham-Kent OPP officers located the vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 401 near the Tilbury service centre. The vehicle stopped on the shoulder momentarily, then proceeded westbound. Officers followed the vehicle into Essex County and attempted to safely stop the fleeing vehicle by boxing it in. The vehicle sped off and was later located by OPP officers travelling on Highway 3 in the Town of Tecumseh. The vehicle eventually stopped and after struggling with officers, the driver was arrested.

The driver, 42 year old, Daniel LAVOIE, from Sudbury, was charged with the following:

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, under the Criminal Code of Canada

Assault a Peace Officer, under the Criminal Code of Canada

Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer, under the Criminal Code of Canada

Fail To Stop At Scene of Accident, under the Criminal Code of Canada

Fail To Stop For Police, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The male is scheduled to appear in a Chatham court on January 9, 2014 to answer to the charges.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
