(CALEDON, ON) – On Thursday, October 17, 2013 shortly after midnight, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) blitz in the area of Albion Vaughan Town Line and Dovaston Gate in the Village of Bolton.
A dark blue Audi approached the spot check and when officers attempted to get the driver to roll the window down, the male refused. After each request, the driver would roll the window down approximately 1 centimetre until the window was halfway open. The officers detected the odour of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. As a result, the driver was advised that he was under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance. The officers demanded the male exit the vehicle to which he refused. Subsequently, the officers reached in to unbuckle the driver’s seat belt at which time, the driver hit the gas pedal and the motor vehicle lurched forward. As a result of the driver’s actions, the male was removed from the vehicle and struggled with the officers. During the altercation with police, officers located a utility knife with the steel blade exposed concealed under the driver’s thigh. No one was injured during the struggle.
Once the investigation was concluded, Malcolm HARRIOT-PASCOE, 23, of Caledon was arrested and charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance, Obstruct Peace Officer and Possession of a Weapon.
The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on November 18, 2013.
