(PORT HOPE, ON) -On August 9, 2014 a Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was travelling north on County Road 28 at Dale Road. A westbound car braked heavily for the red light coming to a stop within the intersection narrowly avoiding striking the cruiser.
Police interviewed the occupants and determined that the driver was impaired and that there was open liquor in the car. The driver was arrested and taken to the Cobourg OPP detachment for further tests.
As a result of these tests, Luke RIZZO age 32 of Cobourg has been charged with the following offences:
1) Having Care&Control of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol
2) Having Care&Control of a motor vehicle while over 80mg
3) Failing to stop for a red light
4) Novice driver G2 having a blood alcohol content above zero
RIZZO was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 3, 2014 at 9:30am.
A 22 year old male passenger was charged with the open liquor.
