( Ashfield Colborne Wawanosh, ON) – On May 28, 2011 at approximately 10:30 pm, Huron OPP officers set up a RIDE checkpoint on Bluewater Highway at Saltford Road. A vehicle entered the checkpoint and immediately caught the attention of the officers. Upon speaking to the driver, the officer formed the grounds that he was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested. The investigation into the driver and vehicle continued as numerous violations were uncovered. The driver was taken to the Huron OPP Detachment where he met with a qualified Intoxilizer Technician to provide two samples of his breath. The driver, however, refused to provide a sample of his breath as required by law.
As a result of the investigation, Lorne BUDGELL (54) of no fixed address was held in police custody and is facing one count of Impaired Driving, one count of Fail to Provide Breath Sample, one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, one count of Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, one count of Operate Unsafe Vehicle, one count of Operate Motor Vehicle with No Insurance, one count of Fail to Wear Seatbelt Assembly, one count of Drive While Under Suspension, one count of Fail to Surrender Permit for Vehicle, one count of Drive Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available, one count of Drive Motor Vehicle with No Validation on Plate and one count of Fail to Display Two Plates. He will answer to these charges in a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on May 30, 2011. LP11142382
