Long Weekend Update For Kawartha Lakes OPP

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment responded to 162 calls for service from Friday evening until Tuesday morning.

A number of calls were traffic complaints, motor vehicle collisions, neighbour disputes and criminal investigations. CKL OPP officers issued 105 provincial offence notices for a variety of driving offences, the primary offence being speeding, during the weekend.

Of note two drivers were charged with criminal driving offences during the weekend, the details as follows:

On May 20, 2016 at approximately 5:45pm a driver, 29 year old David LYNDE of Little Britain, was arrested at a business on Kent St. West in Lindsay and charged with the following offences:

Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)

Driving with More than 80 mg of Alcohol in 100 ml of Blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CCC

Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Content above Zero contrary to section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on June 30, 2016.

On May 23, 2016 at approximately 5pm a driver was investigated on Highway 35, just north of Lindsay. The driver, 54 year old Ronald PETCH of Bowmanville, was subsequently arrested and charged with the following offences:

Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)

Driving with More than 80 mg of Alcohol in 100 ml of Blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CCC

Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on June 16, 2016.
