Lock it or Lose It

(KAPUSKASING, ON.) – Living in a small town far from the big city can create the illusion that crime doesn’t exist. That false sense of security can lead people to leave their car doors unlocked and even their engine running.

The theft of the contents of your vehicle can be a frustrating and even traumatic experience. The Ontario Provincial Police reminds all vehicle owners and drivers to “Lock it or Lose it”!

Every year, particularly in the summer months, local O.P.P. respond to an abundance of thefts involving the contents of motor vehicles. Always remember that an unlocked door or an open window is just an invitation to thieves to take your loose change, your cell phone or your wallet. These thefts are crimes of opportunity. A thief would rather grab something from inside an unlocked car and slip away quietly than break a window and attract attention.

These thefts are unnecessary and are very easily preventable.

Please…roll up your vehicle windows, keep valuables out of sight or remove them from your vehicle altogether, remove your keys and lock your doors. Report any suspicious activity that you see in parking lots or driveways.

Community safety is everyone’s responsibility and crime prevention is everyone’s business.
