Loaded Rifle And Open Alcohol Seized At RIDE – Keith RUTHERFORD Charged

(TRENT HILLS, ON) – On January 22, 2015 at 2:30pm a Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting a RIDE spot check on County Road 45 near the Alnwick-Haldimand Twp border when he stopped a white Dodge Spirit with two male occupants.

When he approached the car, the officer noticed the barrel of a rifle protruding from under a blanket in the back seat. The officer questioned the occupants who admitted that the rifle was loaded. The passenger was arrested in relation to the firearm which was seized. The rifle was found to have one round in the chamber and an additional three rounds in the magazine. Further inspection of the car revealed open liquor.

The passenger, Keith RUTHERFORD age 53 of Castleton is charged with Careless Use of Firearm. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brighton on March 3, 2015.

The driver, a 50 year old male also from Castleton, is charged with having open liquor in a motor vehicle.

Further charges are anticipated.
