(LEAMINGTON, ON) –The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Leamington stopped a grey BMW on May 30, 2015 at approximately 2:25 p.m. on Highway 77 North in Leamington for travelling slower than the posted speed limit.
Officers detected a strong odour of burnt marihuana coming from inside the vehicle. Upon speaking with the driver, it was determined that he was a suspended driver. Both occupants of the vehicle, a male driver and female passenger, were removed from the vehicle and the vehicle was searched. Officers located a loaded handgun during the search, as well as a small amount of marihuana and a quantity of fentanyl patches.
Gavin BROWN, age 31 of Leamington, and Chantelle MCFARLANE, age 29 also of Leamington have been charged with the following offences:
Possession of a Schedule II Substance-Marihuana
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking
Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
Transport Firearm Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner
Possession of a Schedule I Substance-Fentanyl
As well, BROWN has been charged with Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
Both parties will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.
