On October 25th and 26th 2013, the Barrie Police Service Street Crime Drug Unit and High Enforcement Action Team in partnership with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario conducted a liquor enforcement operation in Barrie’s downtown core. The primary focus of this joint operation was to ensure that licensed establishments and their patrons were abiding by rules of the liquor license act to ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere in the downtown core for all. The primary focus for investigators was underage drinking, after hour service, overcrowding, over service of alcohol, disorderly behavior and Public Intoxication.
During the execution of this operation the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario utilized plain clothes inspectors to enter establishments and document any compliance issues that were observed. As a result of the weekend operation the following establishments and compliance infractions were noted:
1) Queens Hotel – Permit Drunkenness
2) Mansion Nightclub – Permit Drunkenness, Permit Removal of Liquor from Premise
3) The Bank – Exceed Lawful Capacity of Premise, Alter Boundaries without consent
In addition, officers patrolling the downtown area arrested 13 people for public intoxication and laid 28 Provincial offences notices for liquor offences and 4 bylaw infractions for urinating on public property.
