(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) – On December 23, 2014 at approximately 4:00 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Jones Baseline at Eastview Road in Guelph-Eramosa Township.
Officers investigated the driver of a 2013 Dodge Ram that entered into the check point. As police approached the vehicle a strong odour of fresh marihuana was detected coming from inside the motor vehicle. Officers observed a green leafy substance on the driver’s jacket that was believed to be marihuana. The driver was placed under arrest and a search was conducted of him and the motor vehicle.
Police seized a substantial quantity of marihuana, brass knuckles and drug paraphernalia.
Aidan NEWTON age 24 of Elora has been charged with Possession of Marihuana For the Purpose of Trafficking Under 3 Kilograms contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on February 27, 2015 to answer to the charges.
