(TAY TOWNSHIP,ON) – On March 12, 2016 at approximately 4:00 p.m. officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial (OPP) along with Tay fire department responded to a call that a snowmobile entered the waters of Georgian Bay at Government Dock Road in Waubaushene, ON.
The operator of the snowmobile made it safely to a large outcropping of rocks. A nearby resident picked him up in a small boat and brought him back to shore. The male was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injury.
As a result of the investigation the driver identified as Nicholas Ryan LARAMEY (age 30) of Tiny Township ON was arrested for Impaired Driving. Further investigation also revealed that the snowmobile the accused was operating had been stolen from a Tay Township residence. The following charges have been laid:
Driving While Ability Impaired – Motorized Snow Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on March 24, 2016 in Midland, Ontario.
