(FORT FRANCES, ON.) The Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the support of OPP Northwest Regional Traffic and Marine Unit is pleased to be a partner in the implementation of Kiss ‘N Ride in Fort Frances.
The “Kiss ‘N Ride†Program, initiated by the Fort Frances Traffic Safety Committee in conjunction with the Rainy River District School Board and the Northwest Catholic District School Board, is a convenient, safe and efficient procedure for dropping off children in the morning, and for picking up children from school in the afternoon. The program is a proven proactive strategy to help ensure the safety of children by reducing the traffic congestion around schools.
“Once a parent/caregiver’s car has come to a complete stop in the designated area a school staff member will be waiting to greet the occupants and ensure the children safely arrive to or depart from schoolâ€, says Cst. Anne McCoy, OPP Community Services Officer. “This program separates the vehicular traffic from school bus traffic to further enhance the safe and efficient transportation process, hence the new construction at Robert Moore and JW Walker school sites.â€
OPP and community partners are excited to announce the launch of Kiss ‘N Ride at Robert Moore School, JW Walker School and St. Francis School in Fort Frances on Tuesday August 26, 2013. The community supports the initiative and police are pleased to see over two dozen volunteers sign up to help the Senior and Law Enforcement Together (SALT) committee be on location to help encourage parents learn the new routes, assist with the dispersal of information and ensure the success of this exciting new program. Each volunteer will be identified in a high-visibility vest at intersections along the routes.
MEDIA OPPORTUNITY – Media are invited to attend Robert Moore School Kiss ‘N Ride loop on Tuesday August 27, 2013 at 9:30am for a photo opportunity. The loop can be accessed from Fourth Street East between Crowe Avenue and Armit Avenue. The traffic safety committee and volunteers will be present to answer questions. If media is unable to attend, please contact Cst. Anne McCoy and a photograph will be forwarded to you.
