During the week of September 24, 2018, to September 30, 2018 there were 115 calls for service, including the Whitney Detachment.
There were nine motor vehicle collisions, four were animal related.
There were two domestic dispute calls for service, and one domestic dispute resulting in criminal code charges.
Domestic Breach of Recognizance Charge
On Tuesday September 25, 2018 at approximately at 4:48 pm, members of the Killaloe OPP detachment responded to a breach of court release conditions at residence in North Algona Wilberforce Twp. A male had breached conditions of release by contacting the victim. As a result of police investigation a 40 yr. old male from North Algona Wilberforce Twp. was arrested and charged with Breach of Recognizance x 2, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held pending a bail court hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke. The name has been withheld to protect the victim’s identity.
Breach of Undertaking Charges
On Friday September 28, 2018 at approximately 10:54 pm, Killaloe OPP Constable Troy Halloran conducted a traffic stop on Highway 60, Madawaska Valley Twp. on a sport utility vehicle (SUV) for a speeding infraction. The male driver had been drinking, and was found to be on a no alcohol possession or consumption court condition of release. As a result 44 yr. old David NDAYE MWANGA of Ottawa was arrested and charged with Breach of Undertaking, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was released on Promise to Appear with a court date of Wednesday November 14, 2018 at 9:30 am, Ontario Court of justice, Killaloe.
Assault Police, Mischief and Breach of Recognizance Charges
On Thursday September 27, 2018 at approximately 7:30 pm, Killaloe OPP Constable Jason MacDougall and Constable Kyle Fabian responded to a disturbance at a residence on Bonnechere St E, Bonnechere Valley Twp. As a result of police investigation, 32 yr. old Angela HIGGINSON of South Algonquin Twp. was arrested and charged with Assault, Mischief and Breach of Recognizance, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held pending a bail court hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke.
Collisions
On Saturday September 29, 2018 at approximately 1:34 pm, Killaloe OPP Constable Glenn Yaraskavitch responded to a two vehicle collision involving a pick up truck and a motor home on Highway 60, North Algona Wilberforce Twp. The vehicles had clipped mirrors as they passed each other on the highway. Minor damages were reported to both vehicles. 71 yr. old Alwin SCHMELZER of Germany was charged with Drive Left of Centre on Curve, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant was issued a provincial offences act notice. There were no injuries.
On Saturday September 29, 2018 at approximately 11:07 am, Killaloe OPP Constable Ian Morin responded to a dirt bike collision on a snowmobile trail near Chanonhouse Road, Madawaska Valley Twp. The operator of the dirt bike sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. This incident remains under investigation.
Fraud
On Saturday September 29, 2018 at approximately 3:23 pm, Killaloe OPP Constable Ian Morin responded to a fraud at residence on Combermere Road, Madawaska Valley Twp. Investigation revealed that the complainant had been scammed out of $45,000, through a phone scam called Mega Millions. The caller requests that the prize winner send money through bank drafts prior to collecting the winnings. Police remind community members that a legitimate contest will never ask for monies to be sent prior to prize pick up. Don’t be a victim of a scam!
Vehicle Entries and Thefts
The Killaloe OPP has responded to several vehicle entries in Bonnechere Valley and North Algona Wilberforce Twp. where unlocked vehicles have been entered and items have been stolen. Police remind the community to always lock vehicle doors and do not leave items like cash, coins or electronics or other valuables in your vehicle that are visible to would be thieves.
Theft of Mountain Bike
On Friday September 28, 2018 at approximately 7:39 am Killaloe OPP responded to a theft of a black Norco mountain bike, on Sprudedale Avenue, Madawaska Valley Twp. The mountain bike was stolen sometime between September 21 and September 23, 2018. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Killaloe OPP or Crime Stoppers.
